Budget Trends Tool

Step 1: Choosing the unit(s) of measurement and years of interest

  • In the Budget Trends Tool, select the measurement options you would like to utilize.
  • Options include the Real Budget, which will graph the budget in 2002 dollars, Real Change which will graph the change in the budget in 2002 dollars; and Percent Change which will graph the percentage change in the budget of a policy area.
  • Here we have selected Real Budget and Percent Change options.
  • Select the years of interest. We have selected 1950 to 2000.

Step 2: Select the budget functions and subfunctions

  • Next, select the budget functions and subfunctions you would like included in the analysis and then click the Graph It button.

Finished!

  • A graph should appear based on the selections you made. For help customizing this chart, see the Chart Tutorial
  • To do another analysis, click the button 'Graph Again'

Budget Distributions Tool


The Budget Distribution Tool allows users to graph the budget functions and subfunctions as a percentage of the total budget. With this tool, users can assess various budget priorities.

Step 1: Selecting the years of interest

  • Select the year you would like included in the analysis.
  • We have used the default values, 1947 to 2002.

Step 2: Select the budget functions and subfunctions

  • Select the budget functions and subfunctions of interest to you. We selected National Defense subfunction and the Federal Law Enforcement Activities subfunction.
  • This tool allows you to choose any number of combinations of functions an subfunctions.
  • Once you have selected the budget functions, click the Graph It button.

Finished!
